Honeybee

Photos by Lucia Llano

Honeybee,

stick to me,

find out where goodness hides.

I want to be the reason someone else knows

what sweetness is.

I’m stuck in the dirt where critters reside,

wasting my potential away in the sun.

I’m not here for a long time,

but I want to linger in something joyful.

I’m stuck in the dirt where critters reside,

wasting my potential away in the sun.

I’m not here for a long time,

but I want to linger in something joyful.

I’ve been chasing rivers,

ever facing toward the wind,

wondering when it will carry me away somewhere new.

Give me permanence,

honey bee,

take the pollen I’ve grown and kiss it with meaning.

To see honey flowing from the mouths that have fed me

would mean a peaceful departure to the next meadow,

where I can do it all over again in new soil.
